Take seat and fasten your belt for a drive through rich
cultural heritage which is reflected in the costumes,
architecture, food, fairs, festivals and age-old traditions
of Leh-Ladakh - a land like no other. Bound by two of
the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalayas
and the Karakoram, Leh lies between the Ladakh range and
the Zanskar range.
Itinerary:
Day
1
Delhi ( 315m ) - Chandigarh ( 365m ) - Manali ( 2050m );
4 hours by train and then 8 hours by jeep
Leave Delhi for Chandigarh by Shatbadi Express at 07.40
in the morning. Escort to hotel for rest in Manali. Hang
around the Mall in the evening. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 2
In Manali ( 2050m )
After breakfast we take you to the famous Hadimba temple
a famous woodwork in Pagoda style architecture. Then
we will visit Nagar castle and Roerich Art Gallery
dedicated to the Russian painter Nicholas Roerich who married
the Indian cine idol Devika Rani and lived there. And then
we visit Snow Point. Afterwards we visit Vashist - famous
for its hot water springs. After this we return to the hotel
for overnight stay.
Day 3
Manali ( 2050m ) - Keylong ( 3350m ); 123km; 7 - 8hrs
After breakfast leave for Keylong via Rohtang pass ( 3978m
) arrival and overnight stay in hotel.
Day 4
Keylong - Sarchu ( 4253m ); 114km; 6 - 7 hrs
Leave Keylong very early for Sarchu over Baralacha Pass
( 4830m ). It is also the actual border between Lahaul and
Zaskar. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.
Day 5
Sarchu - Leh ( 3505m ); 246km; 8 - 9 hrs ) through Tanglangla
( 5360m )
After breakfast drive to Leh via Lachulangla ( 5019m and
Tanglangla 5360m ) - the second highest motorable pass in
the world. Leh is the capital of Ladakh and is situated
on the banks of the river Indus. Arrive and check in to
hotel for overnight stay.
Day 6
In Leh ( 3505m )
Acclimatisation is a key factor for completion of any journey.
So we have designed tours specifically keeping this in mind.
After lunch visit Leh Palace, Leh gompa, Shanti Stupa and
local bazaar. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel
Day 7
Leh - Stok Place - Shey - Thiksey - Hemish - Leh
After breakfast we we take you for sight seeing: the Stok
Palace, Shey Palace, Thiksey, Hemish monasteries. After
the day’s exploration back to Leh for dinner and
overnight stay. Stok Palace ( 14km Southeast of Leh ): Where
the present day royal family resides. Stok Palace and museum
was built in the year 1825 by King Tespal Tondup Namgyal.
At present the place has a collection of royal dresses and
crown which are open for exhibition for travellers. Shey
Palace ( 15km South of Leh) it was built by Deldan Namgyal
in the beginning of 17th century AD. The main image in the
monastery is three-story statue of Buddha Shakamuni, made
of copper gilt that was made by Deldan Namgyal in the memory
of his father - Singay Namgyal. The statue is the only one
of its kind in the region. Thiksey Gompa ( 17km South of
Leh ) - the most beautiful of all the monasteries in Ladakh,
belongs to the Gelukspa order. Hemish Gompa ( 45km South
of Leh) is one of the most famous and largest monasteries
of Ladakh. It belongs to the Dupka order of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery was founded by the first incarnation of Stasang
Raspa Nawang in 1630, who was invited by King Singay Namgyal
and offered a religious estate throughout the region.
Day 8
Leh - Khardung-la ( 5602m ) world’s highest altitude
motorable pass - Leh ( 39km )
After breakfast we take you to Khadong Pass ( 18390 ft
) is 39km of Leh. After spending some time over the pass
back to Leh. Evening is free to visit Leh Market. Dinner
and overnight in Hotel
Day 9
Leh - Alchi ( 3250m ) - Lamayuru ( 3460m ); 135km
After freshening up we will take you to Monastery of Alchi
and Lamayuru. After the day’s journey back to Leh
for dinner and overnight stay.
Alchi Gompa ( 69km West of Leh ) - the most famous and largest
of all the gompas built by Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo in 11th
century.
Lamayuru ( Yungdrung ) Gompa ( 125km West of Leh ) is remarkable,
built on a rock. Lamayuru belongs to the Drigngpa order
of Tibetan Buddhism.
Day 10
Drop at Leh ( 3505m ) Airport
Fly Back to Delhi.
