Situated at the pristine foothills of Dhauladhar mountain ranges, Dharamshala is sacred to the Buddhists around the world. It is the capital of the Tibetan government in exile and centre of Tibetan culture in India.
Itinerary:
Day 1
Delhi (315m) to Dharamshala (1387m) (553 kms /12hours) Leave Delhi for Dharmashala /Mcleodganj in the evening by 2X2 coach.
Day 2 Arrival in Dharamshala (1387m) / Mcleodganj (1770m)
After arriving at Dharamshala check in at the hotel for rest.
Your will stay close to Mcleodganj so that you can spend more
time in his holiness Dalai Lama temple. Mcleodganj is known
as little Lhasa, at 1,770m - this is a residence of His Holiness
Dalai Lama. Just a kilometer further is a Tibetan institute
of performing arts which organises a ten day folk opera in
Dharamshala commencing on the second saturday of April. Mcleodganj
has a Tibetan handicrafts centre. There are many antique and
souvenir shops where you can buy Tibetan handicrafts. Dinner
and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 3 In & around Dharamshala (1387m) / Mcleodganj (1770m)
After breakfast visit Monastery at Mcleodganj. Here's an
option to enjoy your lunch - authentic Tibetan food. There
are many authentic Tibetan food restaurants there, Restaurant
Ma’cllo and Rock and Roll, to name a few. Visit Norbulinga
Institute of Tibetan Culture, which was founded by the department
of religion and culture to preserve the Tibetan culture
and visit the Chinmaya Tapovan, which was established by
Swami Chimaya Anand, There is also a 9m tall Lord Hanuman
image and Rama Temple. Evening is free to visit market at
Mcleodganj. Check in at a hote for dinner and overnight
stay.
Day 4
Dharamshala to Tashijong Monastery to Shobha Singh Art Gallery
and back to Dharamshala
In Sangla (2680m) (92 kms/ 3-4 hours)
Tashijong Monastery: This monastery was built after the
Dalai Lama settled here. Tashijong also promotes arts like
carpet weaving, Tankha painting and runs a school for young
Tibetan children. The young guru of the monastery is recognised
as the reincarnation of his predecessor and is very popular
with visitors.
Shobha Singh Art Gallery: Shobha Singh, a Sikh artist who
painted the divine lived here from 1950 till the mid-60s.
His paintings of the romantic legends include that of Sohni
Mahiwal and Hir Ranja along with other religious paintings.
Most of his original work is still displayed here.
After exploring these three places back to Mcleodganj for
overnight stay, or option to stay in Palampur is also avaible.
Day 5
Leave for Delhi in the evening by 2X2 luxury coach.
Day 6
Arrival in Delhi in the morning.
